Every Robert Sabuda pop-up is a marvel, but America the Beautiful is singularly remarkable for its inspired interpretation of the classic American anthem. Each page presents a magnificent pop-up featuring a line from the first (and best known) verse of "America the Beautiful." Sabuda has included the song in its entirety, featuring mini pop-ups, in a small booklet on the final page. Beginning with the Golden Gate Bridge, and ending with a spectacularly regal Statue of Liberty, Sabuda's America the Beautiful is a lovely keepsake that also serves as a patriotic primer for teaching young ones about America. --Daphne Durham

Madonna's Greatest Hits
Strangers with Candy: Season One

Q: What is the worst lie you've ever told?

A: That I'd be finishing a book project on time.

Q: Describe the perfect writing environment.

A: I live in New York City, so anyplace that's quiet.

Q: If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?

A: "Robert Sabuda--Bookmaker."

Q: Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?

A: Benjamin Franklin

America the Beautiful is a great gift! Rating

It is surprising that America the Beatiful wasn't a runner up for the Caldecott award. In fact it should've won! At our school America the Beatiful was the second runner up when we voted for best picture book of the year. Really, most people haven't even seen a single awsome page in this wonderful book. Buy it now and see what I mean. Why don't you adults buy books like these? As soon as I saw one page I bought the book immediately. You should see a single pop-up page, I promise you will enjoy it!

Great book! Rating

I thought that this book was really great. Even if the pop ups were white they were so well built and with such great detail without even having color. Like the ferry boat on the Mississippi River that accually moves! Robert Subuda is so creative, it is amazing that someone could make pop ups so well. This was a great book and I recommend it to people 8 and up, because older children and adults would be the only ones to really appreciate that type of art. Overall this was my favorite book and should have won the Caldecott award!

America The Beautiful is a wonderful pop-up book. It's amazing that people can make such complicated pop-ups. I think it should have won the Caldecott Award. It would be hard to make just one book because all of the books had to be hand made because the machines cann't make the books. It took a lot of people to make copies of this book. Some of the pop-ups have really small details. One of the pages has a moutain goat!!

This book should have been a Caldecott for sure! Rating

With America The Beautiful's lovely pop-ups and beautiful cover, I can't believe anyone would choose anything else. Robert Sabuda is an excellent illustrator and he's great with pop-ups. If you look closely at the pop-ups, you'll notice that the pop-ups are strained so they're tugged upwards. He does miniscule details such as water moving and a boats wheels turning, all with pop-ups. His illustrations are great for all ages. I would recommend this book for a parent-child read aloud. Kids will love it. I'm a kid myself, so I should know! -Kathryn

A Virtual Tour of America, Land of the Free Rating

This book is a fun, creative way to learn about the wonderful land we live in! Robert Sabuda really outdid himself this time! Along with the outstanding pop-ups, the words to 'America the Beautiful' complete the look. He carefully created pop-ups to go with each phrase of the song. This is an amazing book for all ages, but be careful that you don't rip the pop-ups!
