Contrary to the review by "rosarya", this CD is sung is languages other than English (I won't venture a guess as to which ones, exactly). But they do sound like African languages to me. It's a beautiful CD, with upbeat sounds appropriate for kids.

I have the first World Playground and the Dreamland Putumayo CDs and they are wonderful. Since I love African music, I ordered this CD, but it does not live up to the others. If you have Lion King, then this is very similar. My biggest disappointment is that it is sung in English with a few scattered African phrases that we all recognize (i.e. "hakuna matata" and others from Lion King).

The music is nice enough (hence the 3 stars), but too commercial. The entire time, I just kept thinking Disney.

Who knew children's music could be so enjoyed by the whole family?? I couldn't get enough of this CD when we first recieved it. It is next to impossible to stay in a bad mood while listening to this upbeat music.

This is the perfect CD for the whole family to enjoy in the car. Our children from ages 1 to 13 love it. One year old Eleanor can hardly speak English, but she can sing along to these colorful, rhythmic songs from all parts of Africa. Listening to this CD is a truly enjoyable experience and it is hard not to sing along. Buy it, you'll adore it forever.

Putumayo's music collections offer a unique opportunity to experience new musical talent from around the world. Unlike other compilations, you won't be skipping over tracks. This mix progresses with a logical, rhythmic symmetry with no discomforting mood shifts. You can settle into it, as it settles over you. Children can learn more about the world from music than you might think. "African Playground" is an amazing feat, teaching a wealth of knowledge about the diverse continent and it's music. Beautiful songs that have an innocence that appeals to kids and adults alike!
